Tucked away, almost hidden behind side-street stalls is an inconspicuous doorway that leads down into one of the finest Sichuan restaurants in Hong Kong. Mr and Mrs Wang have run this designer décor establishment for over a decade. You’ll get a set meal with three appetizers, seven main courses, a snack and a dessert, all for HK$280 a head.
They can cater for vegetarians but, renowned for its mouth-numbing peppercorns, Sichuan food is not for the faint of heart. Book two weeks in advance for weekends. Highlight of your evening may well be the Chinese opera-singing chef who performs after every meal.
