A dying breed as Legco edge closer to shutting them down under health and safety regulations – Dai Pai Dongs, or open-air, street restaurants, a last vestige of old Hong Kong. One of the cheapest and best sits tucked away, one lane across from the Central Wetmarkets, underneath the mid-levels escalator and down a tiny steep lane.
Tables and chairs dot their way down the slope while delicious fare is served up fresh from the wok. There is a small English menu but try to go with a Cantonese speaker as dishes can be made to order. Beer is cheap and food is good.
