There are hundreds of Japanese restaurants in Hong Kong, from cheap chains to celebrity chefs in hotel restaurants charging exorbitant prices for tiny morsels. Jumbo Japanese mixes the best of both. The outlet in Kennedy Town (the restaurant with the smallest red lanterns) provides the cheap location while Jumbo Japanese provides the high-standard sushi and sake.
The décor is smart and modern and the menu extensive. Sit at the bar or at one of the booths – perfect for large parties. American sushi has crept in to some sections, but it largely remains authentic, particularly the sake – have it hot or cold.
