There are tens of restaurants, hostels, fake DVD shops and other oddities deep within the bowls of Chungking Mansions. There are a few standouts, but it is the people and cultures it plays host to that create the institution.
Not recommended for the very young, the very old or the very bling – Chungking can get a little unsavoury, especially at night, but this is where you’ll find the most authentic immigrant food, at the cheapest of cheap prices. Dive straight in, if you dare, and sample the myriad wares. You never know what you’ll come out with, or without, if you don’t watch your wallet.
