It’s a funny thing, but when Melburnians go out, they often like to feel as though they haven’t left their own living rooms. The result of this is places like Bar Etiquette on Sydney Rd, where you’ll find yourself sinking into a dilapidated couch and pulling a copy of Harry Potter off a nearby bookshelf, cocktail in hand. Downstairs is the bar section of the venue; granted, this area feels like a ‘proper’ bar, what with the shiny benches and funky wallpaper. Once you get out the back, you’ll feel right at home.
Here there’s another indoor seating area, with couches and carpets on the bare concrete floor, and a small beer garden for smokers. Upstairs, you’ll find three rooms that look and feel just like a student share-house – derelict but cosy. The vibe is here is friendly, casual and, of course, very homely.
