Located in the basement of The Mill restaurant in Hardware Lane, Charlie’s Bar is a cosmopolitan venue that aims for classiness rather than trendiness. Here you’ll find plenty of draped red curtains, leather couches and mood lighting. Remnants of the original warehouse are evident in the exposed brick walls, but that’s about all that has been retained.
There’s a decent and affordable bar food menu, which includes oysters ($3.50), prawns with garlic and herbs ($4), and steak Tartare with crostini ($12), and there are five choices of dessert (all $13). On Thursday nights you can get selected cocktails for $9, and there are $10 martinis on Saturdays until 11pm.
