The Drunken Poet

The Drunken Poet Located just opposite the Queen Victoria Market on Peel St, The Drunken Poet is a little Irish pub with a whole lot of atmosphere. It is considered by many in Melbourne’s Irish community to be the most authentic Irish pub in town, and it definitely does have a minimalist, regional sort of charm. Here, what you see is what you get; there are no bells, whistles or fancy furnishings.

As a result, this unpretentious watering hole is a lot more inviting than many other offerings in and around the city. The pub regularly features live music and spoken word evenings (check their myspace page for details), and there is a range of very reasonably priced beer on tap, including Guinness, of course.
