The Newtown Workers Club

The Newtown Workers Club Located on the corner of trendy and hipster, The Newtown Workers Club is the reincarnation of the former Rob Roy Hotel. Thankfully, the Workers Club wears its ‘Fitzroyalty’ location with relative humility and a minimum of self-conscious coolness. The main bar room is light and lovely, with a beautiful heavy hardwood communal table stretching down the centre of the space. Adjoining this room is a function room and a small seating area with maroon-carpeted walls, ceiling and floor.

Out the back is the kitchen, an enormous band room, and a scruffy little beer garden with paint peeling off its walls (this is Fitzroy, after all). Mondays here are wild with $2 Carlton pots on offer, and on any day of the week you can get $25 cocktail jugs. Food is also available here (mains $16–$20), and gigs are held four or five nights a week.
