Auction Rooms

A new star of the Melbourne café scene is Auction Rooms in North Melbourne. Design-wise, this converted auction house ticks all the ‘trendy’ boxes – distressed walls, exposed beams, high ceilings – but it also boasts a couple of very individual features. An ingenious touch at Auction Rooms is that the enormous front windows are able to be opened in warm weather, so you can sit inside and still breathe fresh air.

Also interesting are the hanging pipe light shades, reminiscent of some kind of luminous, hovering pipe organ. Brunch is served until 3pm, lunch is from 12pm to 3pm and dinner is available from 5pm. Prices are fairly standard for an inner-city café, and there is a selection of wines, spirits and beers available in addition to the excellent coffee.
