It’s easily spotted if you just look up: the big pink plastic baby perched high above the Bimbo Deluxe entrance on Brunswick St, its arms outstretched, enticing you in with the promise of booze and insanely cheap pizza. Inside, Bimbo’s creepy baby dolls stare down at you from dark nooks and crannies, but they don’t seem to scare the hordes who flock to this bar/pizza house daily.
If you catch Bimbo Deluxe at one of its specified ‘cheap times’ – 12pm–4pm Monday to Friday, 7pm–11pm Sunday to Thursday, and 7pm–9pm Saturdays – you can get a delicious gourmet pizza for just $4, making it hands down one of the city’s best value meals. At other times, pizzas are still a bargain (max $7.90). If you’re planning to eat at a rush hour, you may have to wait around for a table, but it’s absolutely worth the effort.
