Nestled in a small shopping arcade off Racecourse Rd in Flemington is Laksa King, purveyors of some of the cheapest and most delicious Malaysian food in the city. If you’re looking for romantic ambiance or flattering lighting, stay away. This place is strictly eat-house only: small, noisy, aesthetically unattractive. As soon as you’ve had a spoon full of laksa, though, or a bite of a satay chicken roti wrap, you won’t care. The beef chanai with roti is also completely yummy.
Servings are massive and prices are low, with mains around $7.50–$15. This place is super popular, so take heed: if you’re planning to eat at Laksa King at a lunch or dinner rush hour, you will almost certainly have to wait for a table unless you book ahead.
