Melbourne’s heritage-listed Luna Park opened in 1912 and has been in operation almost continuously ever since. The fabulously rickety Scenic Railway is the world’s oldest continuously operating roller coaster (it opened with the park in 1912) and the park’s colourful ‘Mr Moon’ entrance is well and truly a Melbourne icon. Other historic attractions within the park include the carousel (1913) and the Ghost Train (1934), which, in this day and age of seriously scary horror movies, will probably induce fits of giggles rather than screams, but its lameness is kind of sweet.
Single ride ticket prices are $8.50 for adults and $6.50 for kids, and an all day unlimited ride pass will cost $39.95 for adults and $29.95 for kids. Unlimited ride family tickets are available for $122.95. Even if you don’t want to take a ride, it’s fun just to walk around Luna Park and watch the punters squeal.
