Royal Botanical Gardens

Royal Botanical GardensThe Royal Botanic Gardens in Melbourne are widely accepted as the country’s finest botanic gardens, and are considered to be among the world’s best. Located just south-east of the CBD, the gardens feature over 12,000 different plant species and a variety of native wildlife, including black swans, kookaburras, bell birds and cockatoos. Entry to the gardens is free, although there are a number of tours available at a cost.

In summer, the gardens host the popular Moonlight Cinema and performances by the Australian Shakespeare Company , great options for a night out with friends or a romantic date under the stars. From the city, it’s a pretty easy 15-minute walk to the gardens; alternatively, you can hop on the Number 8 tram from Flinders St. The gardens are open from 7.30am until sunset every day of the year.
